Board Gaming and other Special Events

13 Jan 2020

In addition to events for specific games and systems, we host other regularly scheduled and special events covering a variety of interests and themes.

(Please CLICK HERE for important information regarding children's participation in events.)

We host free, casual board & card game play every Thursday evening from 5PM to 9PM. You're invited to play any of the 400+ games in our library with friends, family, or even complete strangers! Check out a game you've always been curious about, try a game that you've been thinking about buying, or meet students or other residents of our neighborhood. You're also welcome to bring your Trading Card Game decks for casual play!

Experienced or aspiring designers are also encouraged to bring their own games, no matter the stage of development. The first Thursday of each month is our nominal "Designer's Night", but you're more than welcome to come any Thursday and ask participants if they'd like to playtest your creations, or notify us ahead of time and we'll advertise your attendance.

This is a free event, and as such specific tables or rooms may not be reserved ahead of time. In the spirit of community, if the game you've chosen has room for more players, please invite others to join you.

Join us on Tuesday evenings from 6PM to 9PM to learn painting techniques from a professional miniatures painter, and enjoy the company of other painting enthusiasts. The first 2 hours of each event are a class on painting techniques and the last hour will be open painting, though attendees are welcome to hang out and paint the entire time whether they follow the lesson or not.

Attendees should bring paints, brushes and the miniatures they would like to work on. If you do not have any of these items or you would like to expand your collection we will have them available for purchase as well. There is a $5 fee, and each participant receives a coupon good for $5 off the purchase of any product in the store.

Young Generals is a weekly, kids-only gaming event for tabletop gamers aged 10 to 16. Formerly hosted by Endgame, the event now takes place at Games of Berkeley every Friday evening from 6PM to 9PM. Activities range from miniature painting and wargame basics to board games, card games, and RPGs.

There is a $5 fee, and each participant receives a coupon good for $5 off the purchase of any product in the store. A variety of games and supplies are provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own as well.

Games of Berkeley has the largest selection of jigsaw puzzles in the Bay Area, but puzzlers sometimes prefer to swap their used puzzles with each other. We provide a venue for that, with additional jigsaw puzzle activities during each of these quarterly events. Please watch our social media outlets for notification of specific dates.

Entry fee is $5, and each participant receives a coupon good for $5 off the purchase of any product in the store. Puzzlers are invited to bring their pre-owned jigsaw puzzles of any size or subject matter (with all pieces included). We ask that swaps between individuals follow one or all of these general guidelines:

  1. Similar piece count and/or size
  2. Similar production quality
  3. Similar challenge level

Free RPG Day is a worldwide event in which top role-playing game publishers provide promotional adventures, products, and accessories to retail stores, as giveaways to any customer interested in RPGs, whether new to the hobby or veteran gamers. Games of Berkeley expands on the basic premise, hosting a variety of mainstream and small press game sessions, displaying a huge, special selection of RPG dice, and providing additional associated activities. This is a FREE event that takes place annually on the 3rd Saturday of June.

Other events we have hosted include Pop-Up Gen Con, Locally Grown Sundays, International Tabletop Day, tarot card readings, special Mothers Day D&D sessions, and our own mini-convention, GoBCon! As they become more regularly scheduled, additional info for each will be added to this page.
