It's our totally awesome 36th Anniversary! May 10 2016
June, 1980: Jimmy Carter wins enough delegates to be renominated, David Letterman debuts on NBC-TV daytime, "The Blues Brothers" premieres in Chicago, and Games of Berkeley opens its doors for the very first time!
As disco was ending and new wave beginning, we started out primarily selling to chess, backgammon and RPG players. 36 years later ... well, we're a little more diverse. Let's have some fun to celebrate!
Roll and save!
The Critical Hit Sale is back! Upon check out, all customers will receive a roll of our special, giant D20. Your die roll is your discount!* That means you'll get anything between 1-19% off.
Better yet; roll a 20 and you'll receive 36% off your purchase!
* Excludes collectibles and Lego products. Not good with any other offer.
Back up and running!
We put nearly all of our red-tagged items in the back room over last year's holiday season, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. So we're bringing the Red Room back for our anniversary week!
Everything in the back room will either be tagged with a price that's already at least 50% off the regular price, or will receive a discount at the register.*
* Discounts do not stack. Not good with any other offer.
We love it when our customers go away happy, but it's even better when they come back to tell us about their gaming experiences. Last year's Play Anywhere contest was so successful that we decided to bring it back this year!
We'll reward the following pictures*:
- Most loyal customer (hint; come play at the store!) - $50 gift certificate!
- Most creative location (go wild, go anywhere!) - $75 gift certificate!
- Largest gaming group (and every member of the group can submit a picture for their chance to win!) - $100 gift certificate!
* No purchase necessary. Entries may be submitted up until June 10th, 2016. Only one winner per category. Store employees and their family members are excluded.
Supercharged regular events!
Stop by any of our scheduled events during our anniversary week for a special surprise! We'll be adding something extra to each event. Last year we handed out free promo items, provided snacks, etc., and the only way to find out what's happening this year is to attend.
Imagine our new storefront! (And make suggestions for the old one!)
As you may have heard, Games of Berkeley is moving into a new location next year: 2510 Durant Ave., just off of Telegraph. Among various building improvements, we'll need to decide on paint colors and signs for the exterior of the new space. Want to see what that's like?
We've created a downloadable coloring book page of the new building, so you can decorate it as you see fit. Want a fantasy mural with dragons and adventurers? Go ahead! Think it should look like the old tenant, Tower Records? Awesome! Dreamlike cotton candy castle? Yummy! Share your ideas via our social media (Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram) with the tags #2510Durant and/or #NewGoB.
Even our landlord of the past two decades, Lycette Properties, is getting in on the fun. So there'll be another coloring page soon for your suggestions as to new businesses that could move in at #2151Shattuck!
